It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a squad that has achieved everything.

It needed until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not come up short.

Whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it was a disappointing period because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her great strength - and a priceless quality in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was underway.

"A chance to play and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

Once she was removed the team needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

During the last week a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a significant event.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her concluding event as leader in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as leader.

Success in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
