The star has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which operates to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

Fender was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his third album his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds helped spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges arising from water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in improving amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that funds from shows in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

And 1994 winners they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked singer Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had protected a couple of small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
