🔗 Share this article Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix. Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a different programme. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session. The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the wall. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the pit straight. Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
