England Coach Southee Uncertain on Ashes Availability

Tim Southee

Tim Southee's last Test match for the Kiwis was versus England in the final month of 2024.

England's bowling consultant Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.

The ex- New Zealand pace bowler is only likely to be available for the first Test because of his participation in the International League T20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Commenting as England's team for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the coming days."

English bowling legend Broad had declared the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's at any time a bad Aussie side," Southee remarked.

"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] side that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.

"It ought to be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

But, before the English team head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
