From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
